This facility has designed to accommodate conventions and social functions for up to 1,500 seated persons. The client required a large hall which could be divided with moveable partitions in four equal spaces. The building orientation is set on the south-end of the site to facilitate the connection of the building to the garden and ravine area below, and to allow for maximum separation from neighbouring buildings. To allow for the greatest flexibility of use, the vestibule and pre-function areas are located all along the front elevation, accessible from two main public entrances. At one end of these areas a 45 foot high solarium which connects the main foyer to the outdoor garden, at a lower elevation, adjacent to the natural valley. The large massing of the building has required a strong architectural treatment, with a complex articulation of building elements, creating a distinct identity and spatial tension while giving a sense of direction to visitors. The unique skyline of the façade serves also as a landmark which can be viewed from far away. The outdoor gardens have been designed as an extension of the patron’s space. The garden can be accessed from the parking, interior halls or through the two-story solarium which features tropical plants and affords full viewing of the exterior vegetation. The main terrace features a Reception ‘Plaza’ for outdoor functions. The lower level presents a promenade with a serpentine wall designed to ‘break’ the building rectangular mass of the parking structure and facilitate visual integration with the natural setting of the ravine. |
